KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has formally decided to increase the daily power outage to 14 hours from 12 hours.
Owing to ‘a 30 MW decrease in import from India and shrinking water level in rivers due to the dry season’, the NEA has decided to increase the power outage hours from 84 hours per week to 97 hours per week. The new load-shedding schedule will take effect from tomorrow.
The NEA had enforced a 12-hour daily outage on December 26.
In the worst case, the daily power outage is expected to reach up to 18 hours. However, it depends on the precipitation by mid-May. The melting of the snow or rainfall are other factors that will determine the power outage hours in the days ahead. Currently, there is a shortfall of over 500 MW.
