Chaudary Group (CG) to enter into Telecom sector.

Chaudhary Group, one of the biggest business house of Nepal (popular for electronic products and food/beverages) is all set to enter the telecom market with the brand name CG tel. After acquiring 80 percent Shares of the American company STM Telecommunication Services, CG tel is eager to launch their services within six months. 20 percent share of STM Telecom Sanchar is owned by a Nepali company named AR investment.
STM telecommunication has been running rural telephones in villages of about 50 districts and has the largest PCO network in Nepal under the name "Gramintel". They are also providing services like tele-medicince, international calls, tele-centre in the rural areas, and have a subscriber base of about 5350 (according to NTA latest MIS). STM telecom had also applied for the unified license to NTA (Nepalese Telecommunication Authority) which if they get, allows them to operate different telecom services through a single license, with huge license fee of Rs 377.5 million. Though NTA is examining the applicants for the unified license, the regulatory body won't be able to do the big decision in the absence of their Chairman (whose appointment is stayed by Supreme court) plus there is a case under scrutiny against the unified license.
Chaudhary Group was very keen in investing in the telecom sector from many years but due to unavailability of enough frequency spectrum and huge license fee for new operator, they were mum to wait for amicable time. And this unified license fulfills their awaited desire and will enable them to use many telecom services like GSM, CDMA through a single license.

Nepal Telecom- the state owned telecom operator has inked a deal with Chinese Vendor Huawei for 5.2 M GSM lines- package A of the 10 Million Mega Project. Nepal Telecom had already signed 4.8 Million GSM project (Package B) for Kathmandu and Western Development Region whose first lot equipments (Core, Bsc, RNC) are already installed and ready to replace the ZTE network.
The contract includes the implementation of 5.2 million GSM lines in Central Development Region (outside Kathmandu), Eastern Development Region, Mid-Western Development Region and Far Western Development Region. Huawei will provide the necessary Equipments (MSC, BSC, RNC, BTS, MGW), roll out the whole network and maintain the KPI (key performance indicators) which is also popularly known as  Managed Service where the Vendor is whole sum responsible for the commissioning of the project.
Nepal Telecom's MD Amar Nath Singh and Huawei's Solution Manager Huang Ihua and Account Manger Roshendra Khadka signed the pact yesterday according to NT.
With the new project, Nepal Telecom intends to extend 3G service to the whole of Nepal and some remote regions may be served with GPRS and Edge which if runs well will be a huge achievement there.

WiMax distribution for general users within a week.

Nepal Telecom's WiMAX is ready to be distributed for general customers but it is known that it will be possible after some days and we have to wait till NT formally announces the date. Previously we have posted a news regarding the launching of WiMax for home users within second week of March but due to some works remaining with the billing and USB Dongle, there is some delay in WiMAX distribution for general users, which is almost solved now.

According to them,it seems like the launching of WiMax for general customers will be made within a week, until the billing gets ready and surplus amount of USB dongle gets available through two outsourced companies. Nepal Telecom has made a deal with two companies Airmax Technology and Unitech Network, which are responsible for the distribution of the internet lines and are ready to open more counters through out. They will be opening 14 counters in Kathmandu alone, of which 4 counters will be made available soon to distribute CPE (Customer Premises Equipment), a.k.a USB dongle and WiMAX service to the customers. The USB dongle will be priced at Rs 5500 and the least data package costs around Rs 650 for 5 GB.

Nepal Telecom intends to provide WiMax and Wi-fi hot spots service through out the country (VDCs and municipalities) within this year 2013. Total Capacity of Wimax lines is known to be 200,000 (2 lakh) subscribers, which will be increased if the demand goes above it.
